2014 Accomplishments
- Served 30 special needs groups. 3,204 overall visitors utilized the Center during the open season. Welcomed 7 new special needs groups.
- 244 volunteers, musicians & students volunteered over 3800 hours.
- Continued relationship with Helen Bader Foundation to support three summer camp days for children with special needs and their caregivers called the Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah Days; served over 200 family members (record attendance).
- Expanded accessible trail system at Blue Lotus through grants received from St Frances Cabrini Parish West Bend and the Noon Rotary West Bend.
- Hosted 35 youth for a one day volunteer project as part of the inaugural "Camp Super Hero" program through the Volunteer Center of Washington County.
- Continued partnership with MSOE and J3 Engineering Group, LLC to restore a portion of the accessible deck at the pond; prepared plans for the next phase of expansion.
- Continued partnership with Funjet Vacations as solo beneficiary of the Funjet Vacations Connections Golf Experience.
2013 Accomplishments
- Served 31 special needs groups. 3,212 overall visitors utilized the Center during the season.
Welcomed 11 new special needs groups.
- 198 volunteers, musicians & students volunteered over 3,600 hours.
- Grant received from Helen Bader Foundation for three summer camp days for children with special needs and their caregivers called the “Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah Days”
- Continued partnership with Funjet Vacations as solo beneficiary of the Funjet Vacations Connections Golf Experience.
- Collaborated with legendary Al Kooper and notable Milwaukee musicians (including our own Fred Bliffert, Founder & Board President of Blue Lotus) to produce a once-in-a-lifetime benefit concert.
- Recipient of a new roof for the farm house which was generously funded and completed by the Milwaukee/NARI Foundation.
- Welcomed a variety of special needs groups as both visitors AND volunteers, including individuals from Elena's House, Hope House, the Milwaukee Center for Independence, Portal, Inc & the special education program at West Bend High School.
2012 Accomplishments
- Served 26 special needs groups. 2,666 overall visitors utilized the Center during the season.
- Welcomed 7 new special needs groups.
- 189 volunteers, musicians & students volunteered over 2,800 hours.
- Hired the first ever full-time staff person as Program Coordinator/Site Manager.
- Selected for Cabelas Inaugural Campfire Project and through it received financial support, product donation & volunteer hours from Cabelas employees.
- 1st time solo recipient of proceeds from the Funjet Vacations Connections Golf Experience.
- Continued partnership with MSOE for wheelchair accessible deck expansion project.
2011 Accomplishments
- Served 24 special needs groups. 1,129 overall visitors utilized the Center during the season.
- Increase in number of days reserved per group, such as Milwaukee Center For Independence from 3 weeks to 4 weeks in 2009, 5 weeks in 2010, to 6 weeks in 2011.
- 60 Volunteers, musicians and students volunteered over 1,500 hours.
- Completed three-year MSOE capital improvement work to pier, deck and lagoon.
- Expanded outreach to new volunteer community groups.
- Grants received:
Nonprofit management Fund: Grant monies to facilitate Blue Lotus to succeed on a re-organized level of operations.
Helen Bader Foundation: Grant monies to increase programming of “Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah Day”
2010 Accomplishments
- Served 18 special needs groups. 1,156 overall Visitors utilized the Center during the season.
- Increase in number of days reserved per group, such as MCFI from 3 weeks to 4 weeks in 2009, to 5 weeks in 2010.
- 33 Volunteers, musicians and students volunteered over 1,057 hours.
- Continued partnership with MSOE for Building Projects and Volunteer Work Days. Capital improvements – kayak launch.
- Continued relationship with Michael, Best & Friedrich volunteer group.
- Community service groups ie. high school students, church groups, & service groups.
2009 Accomplishments
- Served 15 special needs groups. 1,129 overall Visitors utilized the Center during the season.
- Increase in number of days reserved per group, such as MCFI from 3 weeks to 4 weeks in 2009.
- 46 Volunteers, musicians and students volunteered over 1,525 hours.
- Continued partnership with MSOE for Building Projects and Volunteer Work Days Upper barn remodel, storage and better access to recreational equipment.
- Volunteer Group from Michael, Best & Friedrich built raised garden beds.
- Community service groups ie. high school students, church groups, & service groups.
2008 Accomplishments
- Served 13 special needs groups. 893 overall Visitors utilized the Center during the season.
- 48 Volunteers, musicians and students volunteered over 1,515 hours.
- New pavilion built in 2007 opened and integrated into therapeutic programs.
- Launched partnership with MSOE for capital improvements to deck.
